Fear is easy to market. It doesn't matter what the truth of the Texas situation was -- the advertisers are hoping that we don't remember what really happened in Texas, just that something bad happened with regards to redistricting. They play on that vague memory. And the ad is vague and only insinuates its message at the end, which is why we haven't agreed on an interpretation.
I like the idea of a truth in advertising for propositions, but we've made significant strides in requiring groups paying for the ads to state who they are. I don't know...I'm growing weary of direct democracy and all these propositions, but that's another issue altogether.

In other words, it's warning us against a situation that occurred precisely because a proposition like this wasn't in place?
Isn't there some sort of truth in advertising law? I wonder if we could pass a proposition that would demand that proposition ads accurately reflect the propositions!

I think it's supposed to reference the recent redistricting battle in Texas in which the Democrats fled from the captiol because they believed the Republicans were gerrymandering the state. The ad is to make us think that we had best keep the legislature deciding the districts, otherwise we'll be locked in like Texas. Ironically, it was the legislature in Texas that committed the "offense" about which the ad is worried, not judges.

I wasn't even sure what that was supposed to mean. Are they trying to invoke fear in us by throwing in an image of evil Texas? Trying to get us to associate this prop with President Bush? It doesn't even make sense.
