John,
Thanks for sending me to the link on the Kong-Narnia MP3.
Frankly, it was unconvincing--and even the points made about weaknesses in Aslan's portrayal with which i agree are not strengthened by reference to Kong.
Kong, even Jackson's Kong, is not a lover or Christ-figure or meaningfully sentient in any "made in God's image" way (though perhaps for some audiences it is in a weird post-darwinian, wishfully thinking de-humanizaing way), and, in the end, "beauty" did not kill him. (How in the world did he distinguish one dishwater blonde from another in the climactic sequences, anyway?)
As I said in my blog review, the real star of the Kong movie is New York City and seamy vaudeville. Kong is too long, yields no new or enduring metaphors for sacrificial love, and flat-out bores one for 167 of its 183 minutes. I can't imagine seeing it again.
