I thought that was a very well written article. He is so close to where I am, and yet we are not quite on the same page. I too am seeking to discern what I affirm and where I part from people within emergent. Where it seems we differ is that my perspective has changed and this changes the questions I ask of scripture, and in some instances the answers I find there. One might read his post and think, we just need to do what we were doing as Southern Baptists (not that I have ever been SB) only better - dig into scripture and apply it in our church and our lives. This would suggest that any new perspective is irrelevant or flawed.
I do agree, though, that any movement that loses its mooring in scripture will walk down paths that will lead to irrelevancy.
Like I said, I think this is a very well written article with a good deal to say. I'm just trying to tease out why I don't quite fit behind his eyes.

True, but I pretty much lump all "Emergent" together as bad, separating it from the more general "emerging movement" label. I have found both good and bad in the emerging movement, with the good mainly coming from the relevant and reconstructionist camps (to use Stetzer's terms). What I have seen from the Emergent group (coordinated by Tony Jones in the US) normally falls into the revisionist faction.
Anyway, I wonder if Stetzer's differentiation will catch on. I hope so!

That's a great clarification! Much better than the "good Emergent" and "bad Emergent" that I use.
