I agree with it that the Universal ride should not be “taken as canon,” it's an apocryphal narrative. I'm undecided about the animated series, though I lean toward it not counting either. (They can't both be right since they each have Doc ending up in different places).
The entry does make this interesting suggestion: “Doc also builds a new time machine, this time using a steam locomotive and the Brown family take off to visit the future (to get the train hover converted) and then back to 1985 to visit Marty and Jennifer before heading off to times unknown (or possibly outer space).”
“Outer space” is far to vague. We're to believe a brilliant scientist takes his family willy-nilly all over the galaxy? I suppose, ultimately, the more important question is to when does Doc go?
