I read Da Vinci Code two years ago at the prompting of an excited student, and I was disappointed--not by the factual inaccuracies, which may in some novels be excused in the name of art, but by the very poor quality of the writing throughout. I had to push myself through the bland prose and cliched plot structure. That makes me wonder why people are so excited, or threatened, by this book nowadays; it doesn't seem credible to me, as art or as argument.
