I agree. But it's also important to note that they didn't give him the award simply for converting to deism- they gave it to him for being public about it knowing many people would be hostile to him.

I think Flew's integrity and bravery are commendable, but I have to be honest about something. When I first read this, I wonder if somebody could ever get that reward if they claimed the evidence led them from theism to atheism.

Thanks for your coverage of this important event. Dr. Flew has indeed received a great deal of criticism for his reversal, so it was doubtless encouraging to him and all seekers of truth to have him honored for his brave stand.

This could not have come at a better time! Will there be CD's of the ceremony? Over at The Renewal Blog, I've been in a long debate with an atheist, along with my pastor and friend. His most recent comments were:
In science, nothing can be proven. At best, there are strong theories that haven't been disproven. Evolution is such a theory. Both micro- and macro-evolutionary processes have been verified in laboratory settings. It has survived 150 years of scientific scrutiny. Evolution is the basis of modern biology. Without it, biology doesn't make sense.
Would be great to get quotes from Johnson and Flew.
