I think the Mormon temple rituals are shameful and dishonoring to God, and they ought to be public for everyone to see. The power in them is their secrecy. Once you remove the secrecy, they are seen for what they are. That is an offense I am willing to give.
Ephesians 4:11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

Exactly. Instead of 1) dealing with the facts or 2) having sympathy for the victims you barrage me with insults. As I said, you won't be getting any sympathy from me about the so-called "holy and sacred" temple rituals.
For those who live in the real world, you can read many heart-breaking stories at www.exmormon.org and sites like it. (By "sites like it," I mean sites where people are given a voice where they would not otherwise have one)
For a study on abuse in the LDS Church and how it's typically dealt with, see Satanic Ritual Abuse and Mormonism by Jerald and Sandra Tanner.
For a history of temple ceremony and explanation of its origins see Evolution of the Mormon Temple Ceremony: 1842-1990 by Jerald and Sandra Tanner. There's plenty of places online for this information as well, including a couple articles at Mormon Research Ministry.

Roger,
What a complete load of crap.
Your comments are absolutely dumbfounding, disgusting and borderline on being really sick- not to mention completely indefensible. You should be ashamed.
I had previously imagined you to be much more intelligent and level headed than these comments would seem to indicate.
I am at the present time still too heart-sick and furious to be able to engage in any sort or rational discussion on the matter- another time perhaps.
-Tad
p.s.- That is absolutely disgusting Roger- I am very, very, very disappointed.

As I understand it, that footage is from some other video that's been around awhile. My guess is that it's not an actual ceremony either. The creator of the video is simply making use of public information already available. Anyone can find out what the "secret handshake" is, as well as the fact that originated (along with other temple rituals) with masonic practices. So don't blame this video or its creators- the cats been out of the bag for a long time.
How do you think people who have been abused through the temple rituals have felt? What about the women who have been molested by use of the "five points of fellowship?" Would you like to silence them because the temple is "holy and sacred?" How do you think they should react to the LDS Church ignoring them? I don't have an ounce of sympathy for Mormons who take offense to their practices being exposed when they do nothing to punish the abusers in their ranks.
I'll grant that the LDS Church did a good thing by changing some of the temple practices this year, but that does NOTHING for the countless victims throughout LDS history.

I have just watched this video- and I am curious...
How do you think members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will respond when they see what is to them some of their most holy and sacred temple work, things intended only for the holiness of the temple, blasphemously displayed against their will in a public forum by the creators of this video for all to see?
How do you think will they respond to this on a personal level? How do you think they should they react to this?

I think he actually said "different religious bent," not "different religion," which could just be interpreted as different method of worship, although that may not be what he meant.
Just out of curiosity, to anyone who knows, if Catholicism isn't considered a different religion, then what is the technical term? It's not a different denomination, like Presbyterian or Baptist. So is there a word that separates Catholicism and Protestantism? I always thought that the technical terms were that our common "faith" was Christianity, and our separate "religions" (methods of worship) were Catholicism and Protestantism (although I completely realize that the word "religion" isn't commonly used that way).

Very interesting, Roger. I appreciate the tone of the video. Acknowledging that those interviewed come from fairly conservative perspectives, they did a good job of maintaining a tone that would be more acceptable to the broader public. There were a couple of very brief comments that I thought would be received poorly. The pastor referring to Christians voting for people of other religions, be they Mormon or Catholic comes to mind. I know that the Catholic church is outside of the circle that some Evangelicals draw, but to the broader public, I expect that would be a shocking statement.
When I saw that it was 30 minutes long, I didn't think I would watch it all, but it held me. It was informative. I thought it was thoughtfully done, though as I say the perspective was more conservative than mine.
