You like annoying stuff too? I have a fascination with TBN and virtually any televangelist. Gene Scott and his wife are up there. I'm like a moth drawn to a bug zapper.

I can see how The Secret would be attractive to people just like the power of positive thinking was/is for decades. This spiritualizes it a bit more. I'm actually shocked that this is so popular because it doesn't appear to be that new. Isn't this what Tony Robbins has been selling in those infomercials all these years? Isn't this similar stuff as Deepak Chopra? But The Da Vinci Code showed us how fun it is to be holders of secret information that the powerful have tried to keep secret for years. We're sticking it the man, man.

The funny thing is that there are some Christian-ish things here. As followers of Christ, we're told to be thankful and focus on the good (Phil 4.8), but that's because there is a good and wonderful God who has our best interests in mind. And let's be honest that our best interests don't always jive with what we want.

I agree with your attack of the blatant consumerism. Nothing in that bit mentioned anything about helping others, bringing about peace and wholeness for society. It was, as you mentioned, narcissistic.

I love the contradictions. There's talk for much of the video about how the universe is guided by all these specific laws, then in the preview of the full-length feature, one of the dudes says that there are no rules to the universe. I also appreciate the help in knowing what are good feelings and what are bad feelings. Good feelings make you feel good and bad feelings make you feel bad. Yeesh, I had that all mixed up.

I certainly hope no one goes through a grieving process after being sold on "The Secret." I can see how this could create a lot of bad complexes since this is basically karma on steroids.
