Maybe it's from the Gospel of Thomas… when Jesus made a bird from clay and made it come to life, then one of his buddies killed the bird. The helmet could represent that Jesus killed his friend in retaliation. …just a guess…

I like how he's wearing the torturous crown of thorns. You know, just for fun. Or does he just keep wearing it so that people will recognize him on the street? (“Hmmmm. The motorcycle might throw people off…better wear the thorns.”)
