The Iranians are a very dangerous element in the ME at the moment. Their influence in Iraq, for instance, may be a precipitator for a regional war with Saudi Arabia, for example.

However, if we took the Danish or Icelandic view of energy policy (use of non-petroleum resources), there would be little reason for the US to be in the ME at all.

When I was young tolerance meant that even though I might think your view absolute lunacy with no redeeming value whatsoever, I would treat you with respect as a person. Now tolerance means all ideas are of equal value in the marketplace and should be so accepted and if you don't you are intolerant. I still like that earlier definition though I am somewhat hard pressed to treat the author of that quote with the respect my definition demands. Were I to hear such tripe in person, it might unleash a "pre-salvation flashback" which would be really ugly.

You've got to see Tom-in-the-Box's latest bit of satire on this...

Ahmadinejad Speaks to Unitarian Congregation

"We realize that President Ahmadinejad has made some statements which could be considered by some to be intolerant" stated Jennings-Hardworth. "Indeed, that might be true. But one must examine his overall demeanor. While Mr. Ahmadinejad is intolerant towards good things, he is also intolerant of those whom we consider intolerant in even more important matters, namely those of the far-right agenda. So we share a common intolerance of unfavorable intolerance and his intolerance of intolerance far out weights, in my opinion, his intolerance of those things tolerable. If there's one thing we cannot tolerate, it is intolerance, unless a greater intolerance exists towards those with even greater intolerance. I think our motives in having him speak, speak for themselves."
