Come Thou Fount is my favorite hymn because I feel it reflects so well my own journey to the cross -- it becomes very much of a prayer whenever I sing it. I had never heard about the 5-stanza version before. It really is quite different from what we sing today. You&#039;ve piqued my curiosity about its history.
I wrote a post a few years back about the meaning of the word &quot;Ebenezer&quot; in this song, and it has become my most popular posts. It&#039;s interesting how many people sing the song without understanding where that word comes from or what it signifies. Our Covenant hymnal recently dumbed down the song, changing &quot;here I raise my Ebenezer&quot; to &quot;here I make to thee an altar.&quot; Very irritating.
