The Contrast

Date July 7, 2005 Posted by Amy Hall

“The contrast between what we've seen on the TV screens here, what's taken place in London and what's taking place here is incredibly vivid to me. On the one hand, we have people here who are working to alleviate poverty, to help rid the world of the pandemic of AIDS, working on ways to have a clean environment. And on the other hand, you've got people killing innocent people. And the contrast couldn't be clearer between the intentions and the hearts of those of us who care deeply about human rights and human liberty, and those who kill — those who have got such evil in their heart that they will take the lives of innocent folks.”

Guess killing innocent people to “spread freedom” is ok.

I guess that depends on what you mean–targeting innocent people to “spread freedom” is obviously not okay. But in principle, engaging in war to free the oppressed–a war in which innocent people are inadvertently killed–is a different matter. Just ask any Jewish person you know who was in a concentration camp.
We have it so good (freedom wise) in this country that we forget how valuable freedom is to the human spirit. But there's a reason why people all over the world throughout history have given their lives in the pursuit of freedom. They put their freedom above food, comfort, and even their lives. You can take a look at this to see what Iraq was like before we got there.
